Somehow the expand composer button expands the composer to full screen on mobile, but then my keyboard hides the lower part of the composer, so I cannot see what I am writing.

Aha, my "improvement" gone wrong, that's unfortunate. Thanks for reporting.

With Charlie's blessing, I just [reverted the commit](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/commit/b205abadfcb8ed0abd2a817f8d5bff5a01907b5d) that introduced the full screen button on mobile. We'll likely revisit this issue in the coming weeks.
