_ in-front of Username

(Jay) #1

Just wondering if there is a clean/dirty hack to allow symbols at the start of usernames.

The main reason is for authenticating users within a game based on usernames.

(hint: the game is Minecraft)

Never heard of it

@IMjay unfortuently there doesn’t appear to be anything in the settings to allow this, I haven’t looked into the internals of this so I can’t say why this was decided.

@codinghorror Mind shedding some light on this? :stuck_out_tongue:

You can always store their game_id on a custom field too!

Allowable usernames include a minimum and maximum length.
They can only include alphanumeric characters. and underscore and must begin with an alphanumeric.

AFAIK lengths can be set in the ACP, but character restrictions are hard-coded into Core.

As Falco posted, using a custom field may be your best, if not only, option.

That would be ideal, however to get the data their username has to be madein an API call.

For now I’ll just make a “also known as” config which changes their username to grab the remote data.

Thanks for the info everyone!

I will be looking at relaxing some username constraints next week, will see if I can address this to

This work is now complete

You can now have an _ in from of a username but you can not have a double _ in front
