There will never be a Wordpress username to Discourse username matching identity mechanism in the core plugin, even behind a setting. The only possibility in this context is email matching. I’ve decided to add email matching as a fallback mechanism to the user webhook. It’ll be in the next version, which will come within a few weeks.
