I randomly was able to get this “back” btn to appear on our staging environment, it needs some updated styling but I cannot figure out what I did to get this to appear. :exploding_head: Thanks! [The image shows a screenshot of a computer interface with a highlighted icon that says "Back". (Captioned by AI)] [image] What does the timeline back button do? Support If I scroll up a bunch in a topic, the back button appears next to the Discourse post scroll bar. But depending on how far I scroll up, I often have to click the button several times to get back to where I was. I’m having trouble figuring out how the back button works, so if anyone could explain it that would be very helpful. past threads make it seem like it appears magically on long timelines… but why does it randomly appear for me on a post and then not again on the same post  I just want to style it

You could have a long discussion with discobot. That’s a quick way to make a long topic which you could then mark as unread and revisit seemingly for the first time.

[image] What does the timeline back button do? Support The blue back button in the vertical timeline (or on mobile, it pops up above the timeline docked at the bottom) takes you to your lowest read position in the topic. [image] (I am testing in https://bbs.boingboing.net/t/post-your-pet-or-animal-pics/72032 which I do have read position on, it is post #1983) However if your lowest read position is at the absolute bottom of the topic, the button will not appear because you can already reach the bottom by pressing the end key or clicking/tapping t…

I linked that above, why does it appear sometimes and then on refresh goes away? It is challenging to style it since I haven’t figured out how to make it stay put oops linked to my own instead of what i meant to, edited since I read that thread previously.

No, you relinked to this post above.

tis the life of coding at night :poop: :face_with_peeking_eye:

How can I get the back button to show in my local dev? Does styleguide have it built in somewhere? @Lilly @HAWK

i believe all buttons styles are here app/assets/stylesheets/common/components/buttons.scss main :root { // global --d-button-border-radius: var(--d-border-radius); --d-button-transition: none; --d-button-border: 1px solid transparent; // .btn-default --d-button-default-text-color: var(--primary); --d-button-default-text-color--hover: var(--secondary); --d-button-default-bg-color: var(--primary-low); --d-button-default-bg-color--hover: var(--primary-medium); --d-button-default-icon-color: var(--primary-high); --d-button-default-icon-color--hover: var(--primary-low); --d-button-default-border: var(--d-button-border); --d-button-default-border--hover: var(--d-button-border); // .btn-primary --d-button-primary-text-color: var(--secondary); --d-button-primary-text-color--hover: var(--secondary); --d-button-primary-bg-color: var(--tertiary); This file has been truncated. show original

Im looking for how to get the back button to show on screen so i can confirm my styles to override the default mixin match our figma. I got the button to show once but haven’t been able to render it since.

Go to a topic with a lot of posts that you haven’t visited yet or in a long time. I went to this one and this one, then went to bottom (most recent post), then scrolled up using the mouse on the timeline scroller. It will appear. Is there a way to force produce this on my local environment since I’ve written all the posts and they’re all fairly recent?

test users are your friend  I do think there is way, I just can’t think of it offhand
