Is it possible to make a theme available to only specific user groups? Basically I would want to have “premium themes” for paid users. Similarly in a theme like Horizon, it is possible to have color schemes available to only specific user groups. I understand it may not be possible out of the box but if I were to make it work, what do I need to tinker with? PS: I did see a similar topic but it was 7 years old. Hoping something has changed since then or at least it is easier to create a custom plugin that would do this. Even if it is a custom plugin, please do point me further ahead so that I can attempt it.

not without plugin development [image] Restrict themes to certain groups? Support As a starting point, you could have a look at how theme access is overridden for the theme-creator.discourse.org system: The allow_theme? method is used in Discourse’s application controller here: As Sam said, what you want to do is possible, but it will require a fair amount of development work to get it working smoothly

That was a CSS only solution which will not work when you are restricting access to non paying members. That solution was hiding access to paying members.

Yep I saw that earlier. So the concept and approach remains the same? Asking coz that topic is 7 years old.

well, theme creator still works

It is just a CSS based solution but will work to restrict users from seeing the premium themes in the selector. Prerequisites is that the user needs to select primary group. Though there is also a TC that will add all user groups as classes. [image]Show/hide themes for specific groups? So for example if I wanted to hide a theme named “Dark Theme” from everyone except those in the Staff group, I could do this: body:not(.staff) { .user-preferences .select-kit-row[data-name="Dark Theme"] { display: none; } } So now “Dark Theme” wouldn’t appear in the user preferences dropdown unless you’re in the staff group. Someone could figure out a way to dig around in the web inspector and enable these themes, but I imagine most people wouldn’t even look. All that being said, for the future I think we should definitely consider some “monetization” features that would enable an admin to easily incentivize support with themes, titles, sets of emoji… etc. [image] CSS Classes for Current User's Groups Theme component discourse2 Summary CSS Classes for Current User’s Groups adds the groups that a member is a part of as CSS classes on the tag. eyeglasses Preview Preview on theme-creator.discourse.org hammer_and_wrench Repository Link https://github.com/discourse/discourse-groups-css-classes-in-body open_book New to Discourse Themes? I run a tech community, everyone would figure out! [image]Show/hide themes for specific groups? we should definitely consider some “monetization” features that would enable an admin to easily incentivize support with themes, titles, sets of emoji… etc Oh yes.. that would be amazing.

It is possible. But they might not either. If security is a concern then you will need a custom plugin so the mod is server side vs client side. If your community though is that advanced users could create a tamper monkey script and theme it from their browser.

There isn’t an easy way to keep them from selecting the theme, but you could create a theme that checked the current user’s group and then did something like redirected people to a page that told them to change the theme back or to subscribe.
