I’m trying to make the sign up process as simple as possible, both for end users and for PII approval processes. Some people might prefer not to use an email address if they don’t have to. I understand that could complicate signup, password recovery, notifications, etc.
If an email address isn’t necessary, then a single field could be used for email/username, like the sign-in page. But I understand if that’s not possible with Discourse.
If not, it looks like the process could be improved with use_email_for_username_and_name_suggestions, but that doesn’t do what I expected. I thought the user name field would auto-populate from the email address - is that correct?
