You can now add a location and a description to an event.

The location is a mono-line text field (supports auto-linking) which will be displayed with a location pin icon:

The description is a multiline text field (supports auto-linking + line breaks) which will be displayed at the end of the event with no icon:

Info:

• The URL field will still be shown if you had it set, but is not available in the UI for new events.
• The description is saved a the block content of the event in the markdown.

This is brilliant, and a much more flexible and high value use of the existing fields - it is also consistent with how most email calendars handle their events.

Would now be a good time to remove the Minimal Event option?

What is the point of the 'Minimal Event' setting in the Add event modal? And why is it separate?

I’m referring to this: [Screenshot 2025-04-02 16.28.34] I struggle to see how this would be helpful, but I’m sure it has some history. A Standalone event almost certainly does what is needed though, and I believe that this is completely redundant. My users often tick it without realising what it does, and I had to go in and undo that quite a bit. האם יש עניין להרחיב את “מיקום” כך שיכלול מיקומים מוגדרים מראש / מנוהלים מרכזית, ובסופו של דבר, ניהול חדרים? לדוגמה, “חדר” יכול להכיל רק אירוע אחד המתרחש בו בפרק זמן נתון, מעין “הזמנת חדר”, וכו’? זו תהיה תכונה ענקית לאפשר כנסים, אלא גם לנהל פוטנציאלית אירועים עבור קהילות בעולם האמיתי עם חללים משויכים.

While this is a real step forward, the Location field is not being passed through via the .ics or Google Calendar (i.e. a regression)

רשימת מיקומים תהיה נהדרת אכן. אולי לעת עתה תוכל להשתמש בתכונת הלוח שנה וליצור קטגוריית הורה עבור המיקום, ואז תת-קטגוריה לכל חדר. כל ההזמנות יהיו נושא שנוצר עם אירוע בתוכו ויופיעו בלוח השנה הקטגורי של הנושא (חדר) הזה. חיסרון אחד הוא שמערכת האירועים אינה לוקחת בחשבון אירועים חופפים, אך אם אתה נמצא בקהילה עם קצת נכונות, אתה יכול לבקש לבדוק אם כבר קיימת הזמנה בזמן זה לפני ואחרי יצירת ההזמנה.

Is there any interest in extending “Location” to include pre-defined/centrally managed locations and, ultimately, room management? E.g. a “room” can only have 1 event occurring in it within a given period of time, so sort of room “reservation”, etc? This would be a huge feature for enabling conferences, but also potentially managing events for real-world communities with associated spaces.

Now that I know Discourse uses FullCalendar and that FullCalendar supports what I understand to be full Resource (e.g. “Room”/location) management this idea seems even more obvious to implement. It seems like it would just be a matter of hooking up to the existing Resource handling plugin (GPL compatible for redistribution) and adding some simple conflict checking on event creation.
