Custom dropdown user field - how to add years?

Mollyvog seeks a way to add a range of years to a custom dropdown user field for age verification. awesomerobot explains that bulk adding options isn’t possible and suggests using a confirmation field instead. Mollyvog prefers a dropdown to ensure users are intentional about their input. chapoi questions whether a dropdown would be more effective if users aren’t engaging with the current confirmation field.

Hello

For better compliance with the Online Safety Act, I want users to add their year of birth when signing up.

When going to custom user fields > dropdown, it seems to only allow me to create one option at a time.

I tried copying and pasting years separated by commas but that just gave me one massive option!

Do I have to manually enter the years, one by one, to create the list?

Yes, unfortunately there’s no way to bulk add options from the admin panel for these custom fields.

It might be easier to use a confirmation field type that says something like “By signing up I confirm that I’m at least {age} years old”

One benefit of doing it this way is that someone couldn’t sign up without checking that box.

Thanks Kris, that’s what we currently have but it’s clear that users aren’t really reading it. We want them to be more intentional by having to pick a year.

Is it a case of them not reading, or them not caring? In the latter case, I’m not sure a dropdown is going to change anything.
