Math mode hard to use with rich text editor

These work:

 For example, Greek characters $\alpha,  \beta,  \delta, \Delta, \epsilon$. 

For example, Greek characters \alpha, \beta, \delta, \Delta, \epsilon.

Looks like there are not upper case Alpha or Beta, though.
