Best practice advice: Image upload to S3 and deletion of local media files

Several days ago I moved all my media to Digital Ocean Spaces and it all appears to be working and new uploads are going there fine. I’m left with the old local uploads folder taking up a lot of space. I renamed it to double check uploads are working ok and nothing would break, and that seems to be all ok.

Can I just delete the contents of the /var/discourse/shared/standalone/uploads folder manually? Or is there some process I should run on Discourse? Or some other variable I need to be aware of?

Just YOLO’d it (after triple checking S3 was working ok).

The main reason I’m doing this is to downsize my droplet. Freed up about 20GB. Then ran a ./launcher cleanup which was another 30GB.

Everything still working fine as far as I can see :crossed_fingers:
