More friendly category creation

Following up here. I’m now in Discourse trying to clean up my categories. It’s a really cumbersome process.

  1. go to “all categories” page
  2. click on the category I want to modify
  3. click on the wrench, make modifications
  4. click “save” at the bottom and no visible feedback tells me that has actually done something
  5. ok, I guess I’m done, where do I go now? ah, “back to the category”
  6. hmmm right now I’m back on the category page that I’m not interested in anymore, how do I get back to the main category page? ah, sidebar > all categories… guess I should have clicked that before

Some of my expectations along the way:

  • when I click “save” I’d like something on the page to confirm I did indeed save
  • for my use-case, where I’m cycling through all my categories to restructure them, or change permissions, or colours, or descriptions, or whatnot, I want to (at least) go back to the main category page, and yes, there is that link in the sidebar, but I kept looking for something in the main content area to “take me back where I needed”
  • even if we don’t get something as pretty as the visual mockup presented in this thread, it would be so much easier to have a big table with all the categories and important settings in there that I can modify, so I can do this initial category setup/housekeeping without having to click through (literally) dozens of screens again and again as the strategy for the community structure evolves, without a good overview.
