I am not sure what I did, but I changed the default @ for trust level 4. I think this should say @leader
AI-generated summary
In a support thread titled ‘How do I change the Group Trust Level @mention name,’ hipp0 reports accidentally altering the default @mention name for Trust Level 4 — now showing as ‘@-K-’ instead of ‘@leader’. Moin suggests the change may have occurred via site text under groups.default_names.trust_level_4, noting that group name updates are delayed or require manual job triggering. hipp0 confirms they can no longer locate or revert the setting, suspecting a bug. Moin advises searching by key even if unchanged, while hipp0 shares screenshots showing the incorrect name. Moin questions when the change occurred and notes that ‘-K-’ is an invalid group name (must start with letter, number, or underscore). hipp0 tries changing ‘-K-’ to ‘K’, suspecting CSS involvement but finding no evidence. Moin recommends testing group name validity via the group creation dialog (which shows validation errors) and suggests using CSS safe mode to rule out frontend customizations. hipp0 identifies the CSS class .group-info-mention-name. NateDhaliwal asks if the name is valid, whether it changes in safe mode, and if a longer name updates properly. Canapin suggests checking staff action logs for clues. The issue appears to stem from an invalid group name change, possibly via site text, with no easy UI-based fix.
Any chance you changed the site text for groups.default_names.trust_level_4? The default for that is @trust_level_4. It’s possible you have reverted it already; renaming the default groups only happens every 12 hours (or when you manually trigger the ensureDbConsistency job in sidekiq).
I searched everywhere and can’t find it in site text anymore, I think maybe I originally changed it there but now the possibility to change it back is not there.
When did you change that? (Though I guess there will be a problem because -K- is not allowed as a group name because it doesn’t start with a letter, number, or underscore)
I thought maybe I c hanged it with CSS but having trouble locating any name text changes, so I don’t think I did it with css.
I’m thinking its a bug, I changed -K- to K to see if it makes it appear again.
I guess that’s too short. If I were you, I would verify the name by entering it in the name field of the dialog to create a new group. There, you can see error messages related to group names the site text page doesn’t check for.
To check if a customization was done, CSS safe mode is very helpful as it disables all frontend customizations. But showing a different name than what is in the database might make it difficult to message or @mention the group.
.group-info-mention-name
is the CSS class
Did you verify that the name you chose is acceptable? Does the name change in safe mode? What if you changed the name to something longer, does that update?
You can try looking at the staff action logs and see if you find something.
