Notify a group about an event

Hello, I created an event and wanted to notify a group of people. When I do, no one receives the notification!

However, if I send it to one person, it works!

Is there a specific setting required?

Thank you

check the settings in the interaction tab of the group admin

hmm i wonder if there has been a bit of a regression or something here. i just tested this and got a notification but it didn’t trigger a notification badge on the user avatar, just in the notification drop down, and i had to go look for it. :thinking:

there are also reminder settings you can use in the event creation modal:

I set it to group trust level 4, but still nothing.

Ah yes, because I have no record of it.

You’re positive it is being sent? I.e, you see it in your Sent messages?

part of me thinks this is a regression:

but per the calendar topic, it handles users/groups and private events differently than maybe i am expecting (although i could swear i had been notified by group events before while working at Discourse, but perhaps they were single user invites :thinking:)

For me, it doesn’t work for groups. We should run a test with another Discourse instance to see if it works. I’m on version 2026.4.0-latest.

Full transparency, I mistook this as you sending a PM inviting them. I wasn’t aware that the Events plugin could send invitations directly, so I’m not sure if anything will be in your Sent Inbox.

private event notifications are not supported:

public event:

private event:

but something still doesn’t seem quite right because i still can’t seem to get the group selection to notify users the way i would expect.

I agree with both private and public events. But I am in public.

I think the issue has been going on for a while :sweat_smile:

I think we need to review the user notification and group invitation features. I tried sending a group invitation to two users, but only the first one worked, so I had to send the second one individually. :thinking:
