DeepSeek-R1 randomly producing "Job exception: undefined method `finish' for nil" error

Whenever interacting with this particular model via AI Bot, it randomly produces this error. Sometimes it happens and sometimes not but I can’t tell exactly what is causing it, although I think it happens more often when it’s “thinking” for a longer period of time.

It’s set up using the OpenAI settings as described here, which is in line with DeepSeek’s documentation:

This problem seems related to this issue, but I’m not certain that I really understand this error to be honest.

I will put a quick bug fix into my branch, but it will probably only land some time next week

I suspect it is only a half fix, the bigger problem is that reasoning models may need ridiculous timeouts (like 5 minute timeouts) and we are now hardcoded to 60 seconds.

FWIW I bumped up our timeout to 6 minutes today given all the reasoning models

I can confirm it now works well. Currently running DeepSeek-R1 using the HuggingFace Inference API. There are intermittent 502 and 504 errors, but that’s the fault of HF I believe. Users should expect all free endpoints to be extremely busy for now lol.
