PandaKai7 inquired whether users can change their usernames on Discourse ID forums, noting that usernames appear fixed to the Discourse ID. NateDhaliwal responded that it is not possible to change the username within the forum because the auth_overrides_username field is hidden and immutable, suggesting that any changes would need to be made on the Discourse ID side, which is also not supported.
PandaKai7 acknowledged the answer but expressed frustration that users cannot maintain separate usernames across different forums. mcwumbly reminded the user to stick to one question per topic. PandaKai7 agreed to remove the second question, noting it had already been sent to the support team.
Finally, mcwumbly provided an update, stating that changes were implemented approximately three weeks prior. Users can now change their username or display name directly in their user settings on the site, even for accounts created via Discourse ID.
Hello! I have a question about the new Discourse ID forums that are free.
Is it possible to change your username on the Discourse ID forums themselves? Because when I looked at it, I wasn’t able to change others usernames, and they stayed the same username as the Discourse ID.
It does not seem like you can do that, since I think the auth_overrides_username is hidden and cannot be changed, so you’d need to update it on the Discourse ID side (which I believe you can’t).
Thanks for the help on that one! That answer makes sense, although it is annoying that people can’t change their usernames and keep them separate on different forums. Now I just need someone from the Discourse team to do something for my second question.
