# A way of tagging someone without notifying them

I was wondering if there could be a feature that would allow you to tag someone, so other people could see their profile easily just by clicking on their name, but it doesn’t actually notify the person (regardless if the person tagging them is blocked or not).
So like instead of @HopscotchRemixer how about :HopscotchRemixer or /HopscotchRemixer.

When I want to reference a Discourse user without bothering them with a notification, I type their name or username manually.

I was talking about allowing you to pull up the users page without notifying them, but yes this topic was requesting the same thing. I tried looking for a duplicate topic before posting this, but I guess I didn’t do a good enough job.
