Ability to force subscription to a category

(Robert Hudson) #1

Hi all,

Is it possible to force all registered users to be subscribed (for email) to a particular category?

When we ran mailman, we could enforce subscription to a particular list (our organisational announcement list). We’d like to be able to do the same in Discourse.

Is this possible now, or is this a feature that could be built?

Cheers!

Robert

You can use the “default categories watching” site setting to ensure your new users (it’s not retro-active) watch that category by default. But they will be able to change their notification level if they want to.

To do it retrospectively or to re-subscribe anyone who dared to unsubscribe or to subdcribe people based on group membership, you can use this plugin:

discourse-watch-category - Watches a category for all the users in a particular group

Winner, thanks.

And we’ll ask to have the plugin installed into our hosted instance.

If your needs change infrequently and you’re interested in an API-based solution that ran no more than a few times a day, I can probably help. I’d almost finished the script when I found this plugin, which I think is a better solution for the client. I can probably do it in a couple hours.
