# About auto translation

I have noticed that after the forum update, an automatic translation feature has been introduced. I am quite curious whether this functionality is powered by a translation plugin, an AI plugin, or if the forum itself has integrated an automatic translation system. Additionally, I wonder why only newly posted threads are automatically translated and why the translation occasionally fails. How can I ensure that my previous posts are also translated automatically?

I have reviewed this, but I still find it somewhat challenging to comprehend how I should manage the AI plugin and the translation plugin to ensure they function properly. Additionally, how can I translate all past posts effectively? Should I simply rebake and republish them? Furthermore, I am currently encountering a 500 error when selecting the DiscourseAI provider within the translation plugin, and I am unsure how to resolve this issue.

Yes, to repeat what has been shared above, the settings to these experimental features are not yet finalised.
To prevent “configuration chaos”, my suggestion would be to hold on a bit before the announcement which would go through how to set this up.

You may refer to the corresponding [docs](https://meta.discourse.org/t/content-localization-manual-and-automatic-with-discourse-ai/370969) on how to set this up.
To answer your question directly, the new localizations are a core feature supplemented by the Discourse AI plugin. The AI plugin does automatic translations, which can alternatively be manually added in Discourse core itself.
