How do i hide Activityhub/Federation from the sidebar?

I think the ones added by plugins are still a little inflexible when it comes to customising the sidebar. I think this is still the advised way of doing it:

Handling plugin-added links

Plugin-added links cannot be directly customized. To modify these links:

1. Create a replacement link with your desired customizations
2. Hide the original plugin link

Some links can be hidden in the settings of the plugin. For instance, the upcoming events link can be hidden by disabling the sidebar_show_upcoming_events setting.
If no setting exists to hide the link, you can use CSS to remove it. For example, the following CSS snippet, originally shared in this topic, hides the link added by the Docs plugin:

שלום, התקנתי את התוסף, וזה היה קל מאוד, אפילו שלא הכרתי לא את Mastodon ולא את התוסף. הכל עובד טוב מלבד פרט קטן אחד שאסביר כאן.

כשאני מפרסם באופן אישי נושא כמנהל מערכת בקטגוריות שמפורסמות לאחר מכן ב-Mastodon, אין בעיה. עם זאת, היום, אחד המשתמשים שלי שמעולם לא פרסם בפורום שלי לפני כן פרסם פוסט באחת הקטגוריות. באופן טבעי, הפוסט הזה נכנס לתור האישור. אישרתי אותו, והפוסט פורסם בקטגוריה. עם זאת, הוא מעולם לא נקלט על ידי ActivityPub ופורסם ב-Mastodon כפי שאני מאמין שהוא היה צריך להיות.

שקלתי שתי בעיות פוטנציאליות: ראשית, המשתמש הזה אינו מנהל מערכת - האם זו יכולה להיות הבעיה? שנית, אולי הבעיה נובעת מהעובדה שהפוסט הזה עבר קודם כל דרך תור מתינות לפני שאושר על ידי. האם זה מנע ממנו להתפרסם ב-Mastodon? מה אתה חושב?

Naturally, this post went into the approval queue.

I reckon this comes from same ground that any topics, that aren’t kind of organic, written in that category and published in normal way, don’t be federated.

You can do it manually, though.

Same happens with WordPress plugin or if a topic is published with the timer. Or moved from non-federated category to federated one.

I think that is more lacking a feature than a bug per se. ActivityPub isn’t totally ready yet.

I was unable to delete it from Mastodon

You can remove a message from your sight, or from local timeline, if you are an admin of that instance.

But you can’t ever delete a message that isn’t yours. You must be the OP in the original instance to delete — and even then it is pure luck if all others in the Fediverse will follow that deletion request.

So you have to delete it from your forum and I’m not sure if that deletion will be federated too from Discourse. But you should be able to un-federate in Discourse. Anyway… it isn’t that big question because after few minutes no one sees such posting because of high traffic from Fediverse

Naturally, this post went into the approval queue. I approved it, and the post was published in the category. However, it was never picked up by ActivityPub and published on Mastodon as I believe it should have been.

Yes, this is expected behaviour. We don’t auto-publish posts on approval. As @Jagster notes, you can use the activity pub topic actions to manually publish a topic and its posts after approval. We may add a setting to auto-publish posts after approval. Some folks may still want to do that manually as people use the approval queue for different reasons.

I also have a related question: uncertain about what was happening, I published a test post myself as an administrator, and there was no problem. After five minutes, it was posted on Mastodon, but I was unable to delete it from Mastodon. I suppose this is because it didn’t go to my main account but to an account linked to one of the actors. It seems impossible for me to control these actor-linked accounts on Mastodon, but that is more of a Mastodon-specific question.

Yes, this is also expected. When a post is federated, the “actor” that controls it is the actor that federated it. You won’t be able to delete it using your mastodon account. You need to delete it on Discourse itself. We then tell mastodon to delete it there too.

@angus I have a strange fault in one of my federated categories (only in one, all other functions of the plugin are fine):

The category appears as “inactive”. The actor can be saved as “enabled” without any error. When I return to the overview of all actors/categories, it is again (or still?) disabled:

How can I debug this ?

No, its read only. The purpose is to have a publicly available documentation area which is read only for the public (and logged-in users), but writeable only for Mods and Admins. ActivityPub should “lure” possible readers from outside as there is only limited Discourse documentation in german language …

see. That is likely the reason it’s showing as Not Active. You may want to make a feature request for that use case.

First, thanks for the great plugin and I cannot wait that this gets more features!

This really should have some kind of whole forum actor. There were some discussion about this on the first posts but it seems that this has not been done yet.

It is nice to have different category/tag actors so you could spesify what you follow. But it would be great that you could make a “forum” actor that shows all public topics.

For example I could follow @pelittaa@pelittaa.fi actor and get all public posts.

There was already a feature request for following individual users and that would be a great addition also since now when I try to follow user using Mastodon it apparently sends follow request that never gets answered.
