# Adding users to groups created on demand for monthly cohorts

Maybe this is a support issue because I haven’t found “the way” to do it, but here is a recurring scenario for me.

When a new user joins the community, I want to add them to a “monthly” group (ie, the month they joined in).

If the monthly group already exists, I can add them to that group just after approving them, that works.

But if it doesn’t exist (this is on the phone app):

- there is no way to add a user to a group that doesn’t exist yet (ie, create the group on the fly as we can with tags)
- so I go off to the “groups” space and create the group
- from the group, I can add users, but only if I know their username (the drop-down doesn’t show a user list unless I type something in it, I think I posted about this previously), and of course by that time I’ve completely forgotten the username of the new user
- so I go to the users listing and there, I can’t see how to “sort” the users so that the most recently approved ones are on top

Is this a UX gap or PEBCAK?
