# Adjacent emoji sometimes doesn't render the 2nd emoji

Adjacent emojis (with no space in between) are not rendered in some cases.

```plaintext
:slightly_smiling_face:‍:arrow_up_down:
:slightly_smiling_face:‍:information_source: 
:slightly_frowning_face::arrow_up_down:
:slightly_frowning_face:‍:information_source:

```

Renders as:

In a post:

In chat:

It’s better in chat, but it displays the small render instead of the large one.

Is `enable inline emoji translation` activated or deactivated when this happens?

By default it is disabled

With `enable inline emoji translation` enabled, it renders like this in a post:

Size is still wrong, though.

This setting is disabled on meta, where I took the screenshots from in my first post.

Thanks for the link, I searched for a topic in this issue but didn’t find it.

Closing as duplicate of [Inline emoji turned into text](https://meta.discourse.org/t/inline-emoji-turned-into-text/345300) which I’m already investigating but it’s unfortunately not an easy fix 😑
