# Advanced search filters: posts by group

In the advanced search filters, one option is to search using ‘posted by’ but this option doesn’t allow one to select posts from a certain group. For example, all posts from members in the trust\_level\_3 group.
I don’t think this is a feature nor is it technically a bug, so I’m posting it here as a feature request!

I think you can use `group:GROUPNAME` to search all the posts posted by a certain group?
The `group_messages:GROUPNAME` one is for searching group inboxes.

I was interested in this topic because I was pretty sure I had achieved search by group here one day, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it again 😅 I must have done it empirically…

Thanks a lot! That’s very helpful!
While using the filter, I found out that I have users in other groups that I want to exclude. So I want the search to show from group A except those in group (staff) 😁
I hope it works but if it doesn’t then I understand we probably need to use [Data Explorer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/32566?silent=true) for this case 🙂

I got back to this as I’m now using it again and when I use the group filter it shows all posts from that specific group (as you explained), but is there a way to filter out the topics i.e. the OP should be from the group. I know it’s possible using [Data Explorer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/32566?silent=true) but again it would be helpful.

If I make this topic a bit wider, but staying in _advanced search_ do we have a list of all `in:` options or are those just same what we can choose at advanced search page?

I don’t think we currently have one of those. It’s been mentioned a couple of times, and is on one of my many lists, but I haven’t got to it yet. 🙂 I agree it would be good though.
