# Akismet key for discourse

Just a very starter question for Akismet. It says all over that it’s a spam protection for Wordpress.
Which made me doubt if I am at the right place for logging in and generating the API for creating API for a Non-wordpress or Ruby website. → [www.akismet.com](http://www.akismet.com).
Or there is some other extension / subdomain / website for getting the akismet key for Discourse.
Can somebody please clarify ?

But I am feeling a bit curious to understand - why they would
want to **present** it as **limited** to WordPress, when it can be
used for other platforms ?

Akismet started out as a Wordpress plugin, it’s owned by Automattic who also offer [Wordpress.com](http://Wordpress.com).
They do not offer end user solutions for other platforms, those are built by third parties using their API.
They’re not listing Discourse in [their known supported platforms list](https://akismet.com/development/api/#use-a-library) by the way. Guessed they missed that?
