# Allow users to See their "Trust Level Requirements Report"

I loved the new user directory option added. My users are finding it pretty useful to find out about the most active members of the community. One of the things my users often ask is how long will it take for them to qualify to Trust Level 2 or 3. I often direct them to the trust level requirements page but users loved the option which is available to admins only.
I mean the “ **Requirements For Trust Level X** ” report as shown below
Can’t we allow users to see progress stats about their activity in order to let them know how far are they to qualify to the next level?
This is the most popular request of our Forum members at this time.

I’m torn on this. As we have several members who are locked to TL 2 for “erratic” behavior that we DO NOT want to become TL 3 and if they have access to this, it would give them the impression they can achieve it, when they really can’t.

And adding another item for “Trust level is not locked” would probably just cause grief for the mod/admin staff…

Yeah, we don’t inform these users that their TL is locked, I don’t want them to figure it out either (as they’ll really go into a frenzy at that point!)

IMHO if you want to encourage “gaming” do it with Badges _not_ Trust Levels.

Extend this to badges could be very cool!
let them know how far are they to qualify to the next level or how far to the next badge

Well that is a fact and indeed this could encourage spammers to quickly fulfil all the requirements with poor participation just to get to the next level. I would agree with you on this

I am respectfully against this.
Not showing the metrics behind the scenes in some details to all users was the key to me fully embracing the concept of trust levels and badges with everything else involved (such as likes).
Many users who associate with certain online subcultures will abuse that knowledge head on.

Because that feature doesn’t exist (except for Staff/Admin who can see it).
Typical users shouldn’t need to worry about it. If they are active, it will simply happen, if they aren’t, it won’t.

To be fair, the description for the TL3 badge [could easily link to the faq post with the full requirements list](https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-do-user-trust-levels-do/4924/6) (and, similarily, the TL2 and TL1 badges should link to their respective posts as well) without doing much harm.

I think the biggest unknown variable is the percent
> of topics created in the last 100 days, must have viewed 25%
> of posts created in the last 100 days, must have read 25%
This will vary from site to site and in fact the defaults can be changed at
Admin → Settings → Trust Levels

I agree with this for the most part. The most common issue I’ve seen is with New members not knowing how to get out of the sandbox.
Seems easy enough, just read a few topics _other than your own_
But for more than one New member, they want answers to their own topics and have little to no interest in the forum in general and don’t understand why they can’t upload images.

If you have access to the Admin pages here and you know you’ve met all of the requirements then this may be a Bug.
If you don’t, then you can’t know if you do indeed “have all the requirements”

We have an account serviced by a bot (whose code was written by several users, though mostly by one in particular) that’s also an admin (on a separate server run by an admin) that users can ask for their trust stats and some other queries (along with graphs linked at plot.ly where appropriate) that we’ve come up with. In particular, our `trust` query gives you something like:

trust level: 4 (LOCKED)
In the last 100:
Visits: 98/50
Topics Replied To: 867/10
Topics Viewed: 1505/240
Topics Viewed (all time): 3712/200
Posts Read: 69942/19949
Posts Read (all time): 176467/500
Flagged: 0/5 (max)
Flagged By: 0/5 (max)
Likes Given: 11319/30
Likes Received: 30909/20
Liked on Days: 101/7
Liked by users: 162/5
```
It’s mainly confined to a special topic we’ve created so it doesn’t overrun actual discussion. Also works via PMs. The [topic is here](https://what.thedailywtf.com/t/shadowmod-queries/6921?u=boomzilla), but you need to be a member and logged in to see it. Posting there requires TL2 or a special group membership, so if you join, message me (@boomzilla) or @PJH.

That’s only because we don’t have any particular problem with users:
1. Knowing what the actual requirements are (not that the defaults on ours have changed)
2. How close they are to (b)reaching them.
and
1. The only trust-locked users are those that are test accounts, you and @abarker😉
I can fully understand why admin/mods on other boards would want to keep any/all of those ‘secret.’
