# Amazon AWS S3 bucket names with dots are not allowed

Although [this thread](https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-does-not-allow-dot-symbol-in-bucket-name-while-amazon-s3-allows-it/29251) was closed, I’m still unable to use bucket names with dots in it.
Did I misunderstood the thread, or is this a regression?

No, it isn’t a regression. Dots do not work when HTTPS is used. That’s why dots are not allowed in bucket names. The only allowed characters are a-z, 0-9, dash and slash.
