I’m not sure what they use… but, I use [Giphy](https://giphy.com/) (has a macOS desktop app) and if you want another great open source option… [Kap](https://getkap.co/) is great too. ---

I use a program called [LICEcap](https://www.cockos.com/licecap/) to make the animated gifs.
