# Appended Number in Topic

Is there a way to disable the number from being added to the end of the URL?
As you can see from the link below /2527 is being added to the end of the URL

I don’t think so. What problem are you trying to solve?
The advantage of the topic ID in the URL is that when you edit the title, all links to the topic will still work. So [https://meta.discourse.org/t/appended-number-in-topic/374980](https://meta.discourse.org/t/appended-number-in-topic/374980) takes you to the same topic as [https://meta.discourse.org/t/a-different-title/374980](https://meta.discourse.org/t/a-different-title/374980) or [https://meta.discourse.org/t/-/374980](https://meta.discourse.org/t/-/374980). That won’t work with [https://meta.discourse.org/t/appended-number-in-topic](https://meta.discourse.org/t/appended-number-in-topic). That link will break when you edit the title.

Well… no. It is ID of that topic. Why is that an issue? Youtube has similar system too.
