# Approve user setting question

Hello everyone, just a quick question. On older versions of Discourse the setting `must approve users` said **Non staff users will not be able to access the site**
However, now that that isn’t displayed does that mean that if I was to enable, nothing will happen to existing users?

When you enable the `must approve users` site setting, all existing users are now automatically marked as being approved. They will not be locked out of the site.
