# Archiving a category

Continuing the discussion from [How should category archiving work?](https://meta.discourse.org/t/how-should-category-archiving-work/32895):

Today I wanted to “archive a category”.

1. Archive each topic in the category
2. Create an Archive group owned by the system user, with no members
3. Remove all permissions and add `Archive can... See`

But I keep seeing the category in my list (I’m Staff, but not a member of Archive group). Do you know why?

Are you an Admin? Admins can always see all categories even when they are not specifically included in the security settings so you will continue to see it but if you try it as a moderator or regular user, it should not be visible. Have you tried that?
