# Are there plans to allow user created Subcategories?

are there any plans to extend the permission levels in a categorie to allow a group of users to create subcategories?

Not at this time. What’s the use case here? Could you use tags instead?

I don’t think tags will work… basically we want to use discourse in a larger organization and kind of limit the high level categories but at the same time give a categrory moderator the posibility to create subcategories below his category…

Are you adding subcategories so often that it would be a problem to reach out to staff to add them when required? If so, tags really sound like the best approach.

so a combination of categories & tags? - what is maybe missing is to

- display all tag on top of a category (same as subcategories)
- have icons for tags

any plans for this?
