Auto backup does not create log and does not notify admin?

(STiNGER) #1

Yesterday I upgraded from Discourse v1.7.0.beta8 to v1.7.0.beta9.
Straight after, I configured backups so that every night at 3:30 a backup is made.
I am keeping the last 10 backups.

This morning I noticed a new backup file was created.
The log however said “No logs yet” and was empty.
Also, the admin user had not received a notification that the backup had succeeded successfully.

Is this the expected behavior?
Is the backup log only created and the admin user only notified when doing manual backups?

I think this is how it works @zogstrip can confirm. I agree we should be logging somewhere every time we make a backup with duration, success/fail and date.

There is a log of every backups albeit it’s kinda hidden

Every time a backup is done, the @system user sends a PM with the full log to the initiator of the backup.
In the case of automated backups, it sends a PM to itself…

Right, I see. That means that I have to check the PM’s sent/received by user @system?
Please forgive my ignorance, but how do I check these?

I am going to answer my own question: by impersonating user @system.
So far, so good: I see in section Messages messages sent by @system in the SENT box.
These contain the complete backup log – very good.
I understand that these messages were sent by @system.
Is it possible to have these messages also sent to a configurable user, such as admin?

You don’t need to impersonate the @system user. You can just go to your.discourse/users/system/messages/sent with any admin account

Wow, that’s cool. I justed tested it and it works.
I am going to make a note of that.
