Automatic backups for all the "Download my posts" across discourses

Almost 1 year ago someone said:

I bet there’ve been no updates on it, even because there’s always the cron job with rsync to “resolve everything”. Those are the best somewhat related prior topics I could come up with.

Anyway, point here is different in almost every aspect… :stuck_out_tongue:

I “just” wanted an automated way to download all my posts from all discourse forums I’ve joined, since there is a function to manually do it, and put them on dropbox and g drive, to take advantage of automated versioning on top of time machine. Yeah, I completely love redundancy for small pieces of data!

Before I keep on trying to make something up (would not be trivial with current discourse implementation), does anyone have such a workflow by any chance? Maybe a chrome extension?

You should be able to write a script that uses the API to

create the download file
wait a while
download the archive

It’d be a bit of a hassle, as you’d have to get your API keys for each site, but I think one could do it.

For most people, it’s easier to get their data from the sites that hold it than from a CSV.

In particular you could use the user API for this

If you don’t know what the user API is, you can read about it here. Spoiler It ain’t here yet.
