Avatar resizing - will css changes suffice or is more magic necessary?

I’ve had a lot of trouble configuring my site appearance to be more ergonomic and space efficient, and I’ve managed to change base font size and even get rid of some, but unfortunately not all, unnecessary padding.

However, one thing that I would like to scale up (or in some use cases, way down) instead, would be the avatars, and MAYBE custom emoji.

I am, unfortunately, at my wits end and the more I try to find answers from the sources, the more frustrating this is and there are some other modifications I would like to move on to, so if anyone could have any pointers on where I should begin, I would be really thankful

You could probably do it with CSS, but you’ll end up with browser-upscaled images. To get bigger images in the right places, however, will require More Magic.

Specifically, change the handlebars templates to pass a different size to the ‘avatar’ helper.

You can do this with JS in the page.

Oh dear. Sounds like it will not be worth the trouble in my case, but maybe I’ll look into it at some point.
