Babble - A Chat Plugin

(Panteen Pro-V) #430

i’ve checked settings page of babble, there are no option called ‘full page mode’

(Johnny) #431

@gdpelican I am unable to add a channel. When I click on “New channel”, it just disappears.

(James Kiesel) #432

Sorry, I’ll need some more info than that to help. What disappears? What versions of discourse are you on, and what branch of Babble? Do you have a screenshot, or repro steps?

(Johnny) #433

@gdpelican I am using the latest version of Discourse. Babble version 1.1.0 which is the latest I guess. In the chat option, in settings, when I click to create new channel, the new channel button disappears and nothing shows. I have also attached the image.

@gdpelican How does the full page mode work? I tick in on, but can’t work out to to access the chat.

(Panteen Pro-V) #436

I’ve just installed Beta version of Babble and it seems to run on Discourse beta… however the plugin is very very slow and only works on Chrome. On Safari, when you click on the icon, there are no modal shown. On Firefox, it’s really sluggish.

emoticons do not work !!

@Caswal_Parker You need to create a category specific chat topic. Then the ‘chat’ nav button will appear when viewing that category in discovery.

(Angus McLeod) #439

The signature of a discourse emoji helper changed a few days ago.

I’ve updated the babble beta branch to support this change.

#440

This is what my chats page looks like. I cannot add category or group associations.

(Алексей Копаев) #441

How to hide the chat section? The setting is checked “Suppress this category from the homepage.” But heading is shown in 2 places. If this column comes standard user site.com/c/chat sees the message “The chat section is no longer so.”

(Lee_Ars) #442

@angus - Loving Babble, but some method to display names is definitely required. I have to keep another Discourse window open to look up who’s speaking based on their avatar.

(James Kiesel) #443

I’ve thrown this on the feedback for our full chat version.

(James Kiesel) #444

Are you on the full page branch or the master branch?

(Angus McLeod) #445

Just to be clear, I’m not the author of Babble  . @gdpelican is. I’m helping out with full page chat.

We’re hacking on Babble together today, so we’ll take a look at this issue.

(Алексей Копаев) #446

this category displays all users, including new ones that just registered.

(Angus McLeod) #447

Hey, can you confirm which branch of Babble you are using? The behavior you’re describing seems to be the behavior on master branch, rather than the beta branch.

(Алексей Копаев) #448

Version 1.1.0 is installed babble
- git clone https://github.com/gdpelican/babble.git

(Angus McLeod) #449

We just added poster names and usernames to fullpage chat on beta. The behave in the same way normal poster names and usernames do, so they are affected by the display_name_on_posts and prioritize_username_in_ux settings.

(Lee_Ars) #450

Excellent, thanks—I’ll give it a rebuild and try.

edit -

@angus, what’s the expected behavior of full-page chat? When I toggle it on, the bullhorn icon simply disappears and I don’t see any obvious way to invoke the chat. The chat category I created is there, but it’s unclear what to do next.

I’m definitely on the beta branch—I’ve got this in my container file:

- git clone -b beta https://github.com/gdpelican/babble.git

Am I just missing something obvious?
