Back button not working on Category filter

(ginger man) #1

Is there a way to open the individual topic page in the right pane like what you see in nytimes.com comments. This is helpful to retain the context.

This is extremely useful when you scroll through 100 topics and choose one topic to read. When you hit the back button after reading the topic, the initial position is lost.

What is the ideal way to implement this need ?

Hmmm do you have a way to reproduce losing your scroll position? That should work, even if you scroll through 100 and hit back.

Sure. FWIW I am using Firefox 31.0 in Mac

If you go to any category page like “feature” and scroll through 100 posts and choose a post to read. If you go back, the scroll position is lost.

I just tried this on Firefox 31.0 on a Mac – just to confirm are you talking about this forum? Or another one? We did have a bug about this which was recently fixed, but it is deployed here on meta.

Yes. I am testing https://meta.discourse.org/category/feature page.

Aha! It’s broken on that category filter, but not the main page such as latest. Thanks I will fix that.

@eviltrout Thanks for quick action.

Dont you think nytimes.com or producthunt.com way of showing comments useful :wink:

It’s an interesting idea but probably too severe for what we’re trying to build here.

Fixed now, thanks for letting us know!
