Badges for Certified and Licensed should say how to get them

I noticed that I hadn’t gotten my “Certified” badge and knew to PM @discobot to get it. New users will get a message, so they arguably don’t need to know that.

I don’t know how to get the “licensed” badge, though. Discobot’s help doesn’t mention it, and it would seem like Discobot would tell me at the end of the tutorial that there was more to be had.

Or perhaps I’m blind.

The full badge descriptions tell how. Click through to read the full description.

You mean this:

And this?

Yep those both say how to get it.

I pay pretty close attention to stuff here and I don’t know how to find the “interactive advanced user tutorial.” Similarly, if someone doesn’t receive the new user PM from Discobot, how would they know how to find the tutorial?

All (new) users receive the mandatory pm from discobot, so that should not be a problem.

Agreed.

How does one find the advanced tutorial?

It should be listed in @discobot help

I agree. I don’t see it, though. And it would be nice if it were mentioned at the end of successfully completing the basic help.

I believe @tgxworld made the decision to not show advanced as an option until you complete new. I don’t agree with this though and I think we should show the full menu of narratives the user has access to… (there may be Admin or Mod narratives at some point).

Me neither. Here are some reasons.

After I asked for help again . . .

I did manage to find it, but I had to look twice, as this looks very much like it did the first time, noticing that there is now an additional narrative in that gray box wasn’t easy for the likes of me.

Oh! And you know what? The other quote/gray boxes show the result of those commands, while the one for “start” provides alternative narratives. I think that contributes to my ignoring what was there the first times I looked at it.

I’d recommend that it always tell you everything (or, maybe change “I currently know how” to "For you, I will currently do. . " to make it clearer that the answer could change).

Why can’t I just say @discobot help rather than @discobot display help? I guess one day discobot might display other things? And if I don’t tell discobot anything useful, why can’t he tell me what my options are. Saying “I don’t know what you want me to do. If you would like for me to tell you want I can do, you must ask me in a very special way” doesn’t seem very nice.

Minimum post length

That was what the bot used to do in the past but we realized it makes the bot very spammy. We don’t need the bot to repeat all the options just because someone makes a typo.

Doh!

I feel like such a fool.

I think that there must be a way to make a “hey, if that was fun you can try this one day” message not seem spammy, but I also think you’ve thought about this more than I have.

Nice work.

I’ve just removed the restriction on the advanced user track.
