# Better insights into your community with the redesigned admin dashboard

The admin dashboard has a new design that puts your most important community signals — traffic, search health, engagement, and support — front and center, with a customizable reports section, date range controls, and category-level controls.
In this topic, we’ll review the major changes and share how you can start using this today.
## 🔬 What’s changed
The new dashboard was designed to help you understand your community’s health and value. Let’s walk through the dashboard’s content and capabilities.
At the top of the dashboard, you can customize the **date range** and use the **Configure** button to manage the ordering and visibility of dashboard sections.
> **Note** : For communities with lots of traffic, we recommend limiting the dashboard to no more than 6 months of data at a time. Larger time periods may impact the dashboard’s performance. We’re working to improve this!
**Highlights** shows high-level community health KPIs for the selected time period: new signups, DAU/MAU ratio, new contributors, and if your community uses [support categories](https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-solved/30155), the number of accepted solutions.
**Site Traffic** surfaces how people are finding and using your community, including details about session duration, bounce rate, and where traffic comes from (i.e. the top referrers and top countries).
> **Notes** :
>
> - You may notice pageview counts look slightly higher after enabling the redesigned dashboard. This is expected — the new dashboard records pageviews more reliably, capturing some visits that the previous method could miss. Your actual traffic hasn’t changed; the numbers are just more accurate.
> - Our expanded referrer tracking is a recent addition to Discourse, so it won’t be available if you look at time periods beyond a month or so ago.
**Reports** is a customizable section where you can pin the reports that matter most to your community. This includes [Data Explorer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-data-explorer/32566) queries, including your own custom queries, for Business+ customers.
**Engagement** shows how actively members are participating in your community. This section includes a trust level pipeline, which tracks how members are growing as they participate more and more, details on which users are posting, and a breakdown of activity by category for the most active categories in your community (which you can also customize to show the categories of your choice).
**Search** shows total search volume and no-result rate for the selected period, a list of trending search terms, and a list of search terms where users click none of the results — which indicates a content gap.
For sites with at least one [support category](https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-solved/30155), the **Support** section shows resolution rate, staff involvement, and average first-reply time, along with breakdowns of the topic outcome, information about who is answering, and response time distributions.
## ⚙ Turning on dashboard improvements in your community
To turn this on, head to the **[Upcoming changes](https://meta.discourse.org/t/introducing-upcoming-changes-a-system-to-manage-new-features-and-changes-to-existing-functionality-in-your-community/392894)** page in your admin area (`/admin/config/upcoming-changes`) and find the **Dashboard improvements** item. Update the **Enabled for** … field to opt your site in to this new design:

For me, this would only be useful if the groups were customizable and not restricted to predefined or automatically generated groups.

This is really nice, I appreciate the modular nature of it with how I can swap out reports and whatnot.
It would be great if these “key stats” could be made modular too, my site is mostly for documenting stuff internally with a company and other testing so lots of these don’t apply to us.
I’m also not really sure how I feel about this “— up 15%” thing when an icon could be used instead like it is everywhere else.

Thanks for asking 🙂 I retrieve some of the following information through custom [Data Explorer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/32566?silent=true) queries. I consider these metrics relevant for our use case.
**Users**
- number of registered users in group X
- share of contributing users (created a topic, replied to a topic), reading users, and ghost users (just clicking around without further engagement)
- language setting (from the language switch)
- distribution of email domains (public providers, universities, others)
**Topics, Posts**
- number of topics / posts in self-defined groups of categories
- post-per-topic ratio in these groups
**Traffic**
- page views from web crawlers
- page views from users = anonymous users + logged-in users
- clicks from Top 5 referrers
**Community Health**
- DAU/MAU ratio
- number of daily engaged users (DEU)
- share of TL-1 users in group x

If you’re asking about when it would actually be swapped out with the current dashboard without fiddling with settings, I believe it could still take some weeks.

Hey @lindsey and team!
I’ve given this a try and I LOVE what I see and can do. I have a few questions.
Is there documentation on the response format required for the custom [Data Explorer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/32566?silent=true) queries to show up correctly? Using the AI bot on the forum here it looks like it needs a date field and a number field. I was able to get a report “Time to Solution” working but it’s a bar chart vs a line chart like the others. I think initially it did show up as a line when the dates returned where in the format of MM-DD-YYYY. We wanted consistency so I changed the [Data Explorer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/32566?silent=true) query to match a 3 character month and the two digit day.
The other question I had was around the Site traffic area, I am wondering how the top countries are calculated. Is this by IP address? Also, when I click the graph to filter out logged in/anonymous/crawlers, I suspected those numbers to change based upon what was still visible in the graph but they didn’t
My final thought for now is that it would be nice to add your own highlights to the highlight section and organize which tiles show up in which order!

Oh that’s interesting – I had designed these as “separate” sections, the grey border essentially indicating a different compartment, but I can absolutely see how it would be interesting to tie those to the filters of the main chart.

I would think so, yes. Of course VPNs might distort the data a bit, but not sure I see a great alternative. Using profile location would exclude all anonymous visitors + not always correct or set either. Did you have anything else in mind?

Yes, we have a large percentage of traffic from countries that our internal metrics don’t match up with. I was trying to see where the crawler and bot traffic was correlating to but the numbers didn’t change 😕

I don’t have anything else in mind, I think that’s the best way to do it, I just wanted to confirm that’s how it worked!

I like this new dashboard it reminds me of the new 365 Admin centre dashboard with the boxes.
I can’t seem to work out where you can find out when Discourse was last updated though and the new storage isn’t as specific.

Yes, we are moving those to a new home. The limits for email and storage can be found at `admin/manage-account` and the updates are being moved to a space that isn’t available yet.

We do know of some performance issues when selecting a larger data range, like 6 months+, but do you also experience the problem on 7days/30 days?

Yes - the initial page load is noticeably slower. After that, it’s faster.
