I want to show a calendar in a topic, not the top of the category. When I have events in the category these show in the top of category calendar, thus
but when I embed the calendar in a topic, the events do not show up.

Are they the same calendar and how did you embed it in the post?
Can you add events to the calendar in the post by using local dates in replies?
I assume you’ve already seen Creating and managing calendars.
I’m not sure what you mean by “the same calendar”. I’d like them to be. I added it to the post through [calendar][/calendar] using markup mode.
Rereading the cited document, I see now that I’ve created a “topic calendar” in the post as I’m able to add an entry using “insert date/time” in a reply.
Maybe there’s no way to do what I’m trying to do?
I was thinking something like using [calendar categoryId=123][/calendar] should do it but I don’t see that as an option in the docs.

That’s correct. There is no way to have a topic calendar with the same behaviour as a category calendar. They are intended to serve different purposes.
What is your use case? We may be able to offer workarounds.
There were complaints that the calendar at the top of the category takes too much real-estate / scrolling. If there were a way to collapse it that would be helpful.
