Can Discourse Be Installed on a Local Host (I don't possess any domain at this time)

(D Iff) #1

All my try to install Discourse using different instractions faild: trying for 1 full day. I thought maybe it’s because of installing on a localhost.
I’m installing it on my laptop, Ubuntu, 13.10, 64bit.
I don’t have any domain in this stage.
I want to test it first.
Can discourse be installed on a local host!

You probably want this:

Is it possible to run Docker install locally?

Ok, I’ll try this, too.
Why installation of Discourse is so complex and geeky?! I can install wordpress in 2 minutes, but discourse killed me!

Because WordPress is over a decade old, and Discourse is about a year old? Just an idea.

Try Bitnami Stack for Discourse. Its very easy to setup and run.

I myself am using it on Ubuntu 13.10. Its been running without any hastle for about a week now.

I’d just spin up an Ubuntu Vagrant Virtual Machine [1], register it’s IP in my /etc/hosts file with a made up domain (e.g. discourse.dev or discourse.local), then run the Discourse Docker install inside the VM.
The whole process should be done in under half an hour and most of the time will be spent waiting for the different components being installed.

I have a problem with vagrant: Vagrant fails mounting Discourse - stdin: is not a tty

[/quote]Bitnami’s service isn’t gratis (gratis just for 1 hour).
I don’t want to pay for a test environment. I need to install it on my local host to customize it.
