Can I only view a post's source if it's been edited?

Am I missing something or am I completely reliant on a “post last edited” pencil-style button in order to view the Raw & HTML version of a post?

There’s been many cases when I’ve wanted to view the source of posts to see how a particular Markdown/HTML trick was achieved, or to investigate a glitch in someone’s post.

Perhaps a subtle “view source” link could be incorporated into the “share a link to post” datestamp/share pop-up?

OR

When you hover over juuust this spot exactly, the button will be revealed.

That’d make me a very happy power user.

Power users should know that they can use

/raw/{topicid}/{postid}

to get to the raw markup for any post. The easy way is this:

  1. Click share link
  2. You will see a link URL like https://meta.discourse.org/t/ease-topic-entry-by-making-whole-row-a-link/19365/11?u=codinghorror
  3. Delete the /t/topic-title/ bit and replace it with /raw/
  4. (optional) delete the u=username bit too if needed

e.g. https://meta.discourse.org/raw/19365/11

That is really cool but imo a user setting for a source button would be even better, a user shouldn’t have to remember these steps.

Or this as a plug-in, of course.

Ah thanks, I knew I’d seen that link before. Cheers!

@Moter8 I for one am quite fine with this little workaround. It’s hardly a very sought after feature. It shouldn’t be hard to implement something along the lines of my suggestions above in a plugin though.

No need to fuss up the core with obscure convenience tweaks. Yes I know I’m back-pedalling like mad, it was early in the morning, I just got overexcited.

Any chance we could get all of these “secret” URLs listed in some type of app-internal help page for admins? In most cases, they aren’t the kind of things most admins would use enough to memorize them.
