# Can i restart a group that has been shut down

Unfortunately we no longer have a backup of the previous site, so we’re unable to reactivate it. I can see you’ve already created a new site, though.

Please keep in mind that Free sites need to remain active to avoid being automatically decommissioned. Once a **free** site has been decommissioned, it can’t be restored, and you’ll need to start again from scratch.
