# Canned reply variable for direct message recipient

Currently there are multiple variables for use in canned replies, which you can see [here](https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-canned-replies/48296). As these are meant for replies, currently none of these variables work to list the name or username of the recipient of the original direct message.
Creating a variable to list the name/username of the user I’m sending a direct message to would make it very simple for me and my team to search their username and find any messages we have addressed to them in the past.

That is indeed a good idea for an improvement to the Canned Replies plugin.
