# Cannot change category position

fixed category positions is set to true

but I don’t know where to go/clic to change the position of the categories.

This is mydomain/categories

(also I cannot find Discourse software version anymore)

Go to the category and hit “Edit” the category, go to “Settings” and check out Position:

Used to be we could drag and drop to reorder categories - I don’t think that is possible anymore, most unfortunately ☹

I don’t think drag & drop is really useful, as long as it works, UX is not important for this.

I disagree but that is probably because we have enough categories that figuring out the position when we want to move one ‘to the middle’ is a royal pain. 🙂

A pain indeed. Apologies for my egocentrism. Drag & drop will make it  
better for everybody and is necessary for some.

Try out the new UI on latest, still has some edge cases but far better
