# Cannot create account using Firefox 78

**I was directed to post this issue here, since the website referenced below uses Discourse.**

### Steps to reproduce

1. Went to [https://forum.obsidian.md](https://forum.obsidian.md) in Firefox browser
2. Clicked on “Sign Up” button in top right corner
3. Prompt appears allowing me to enter details; I entered the details I wanted to use
4. Click on Create New Account button

### Expected result

Expected result was to create a new account

### Actual result

Could not create account because the username field shows the error, “Checking username availability” indefinitely, regardless of what I enter.

### Environment

- Operating system: Windows 10 Pro
- Browser: Firefox 78.7.1esr 64-bit

### Additional information

- The issue existed in a private window also.
- I was able to create an account using Microsoft Edge, and then sign in in Firefox.

I can’t reproduce on latest Firefox, so I recommend updating your browser (per docs we support the latest version of each browser, no exceptions for ESR and the like)

Did you try in [Firefox Safe Mode](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode)?
