Cannot Delete Auto-Created Topics in Categories

#1

We’re working on transitioning our existing forum to Discourse.

We’ve loaded all of our existing content into Discourse from Vanilla but it looks like Discourse has auto created new topics in each of the categories like, “About the Announcements category”.

I’d like to delete all of these but selecting the topics and deleting them does not seem to work.

Help!

You might want to do a search.

Sorry answer: You can’t

Those topics are used to provide the category description

That’s annoying. We already have those posts from our previous forum… Ugh.

And I did search and didn’t find the answer.

Why don’t you copy the content of those posts to the category description topics?
Or you could hide the category description topics

#5

I could @gerhard. Was trying to avoid doing that work.

I do it in the Discourse database manually:

It is very uncomfortable.
So I would like to have the feature: Provide the «New Category» dialog with an ability to suppress an auto-creation of the category topic

I would think so. Not having an About page for a category - which is the categories description - in the absence of an easily understood category title could create a feeling of uncertainty.

Strongly recommend against this, same topic_id may exist in a large amount of tables this could easily cause all sorts of issues.
