# Chat compatibility with the category lockdown plugin

_We have a subscription allowed (and available with default trust system) and we keep that out of public._

Can you share a bit more about how you imagine things working with chat and the category lockdown plugin?
Would you want the channel to be visible in `/chat/browse/open`, but prevent users from joining? Or something like that?

Sure, we want to keep some rooms only with subscribed people (and trust lvl 2) đ
We love channels respect lockdown feature on specific categories, because we have some restricted but visible.
_And Discourse Chat donât get the ârestricted but visibleâ flag._

OK, Iâm guessing what needs to happen here is for the plugin to add funtionality to support chat rather than the other way around.
In the meantime, how are you approaching this problem? Are you creating channels in a different category that is restricted and not visible instead?

Update.
We are moving to chat and we canât use categories limited chats because we are using âCategory lockdownâ.
So if we enable chat on some categories, we canât limit the access to members that really have access (Category lockdown allows everyone to see titles but not content).

Use some generic category for chat? There is no need why tose should be actually tied up with this and that category. But sure â then you need a pseudo-category for every channel.
Or⌠can you show some metrics to you that are resoning need of such advertisement?

Sorry but I donât understand your message at all. Chat needs to respect category lockdown and it doesnât:
That channel is showed to everyone that has view access to the channel and thatâs wrong:
Because we are using Category Lockdown Plugin. Maybe you need to understand that at first, Iâm talking about a specific escenario.
âtodosâ means âallâ and thatâs what Chat respect but itâs not OK if we are using Category Lockdown Plugin that limites the real access.
