방금 함부르크에서 열린 37C3 컨퍼런스에서 돌아왔습니다. 그중 한 발표는 2023년 7월에 IETF에서 최종 확정된, 최근 공개된 메시징 레이어 보안 프로토콜(RFC 9420)에 관한 것이었습니다.

이 기능을 정말 좋아할 사람이면서도, 이 기능을 구축하는 것뿐 아니라 유지보수하는 데에도 상당한 시간과 비용이 들 수 있다는 점을 이해하는 사람으로서… 그리고 정확히 얼마나 많은 시간과 비용이 필요한지 전혀 알지 못하지만, 이러한 목표를 달성할 수 있는 방법이 있을지도 모른다는 호기심 때문에…
누군가 디스코스(Discourse) 채팅 암호화를 구축하고 유지보수하는 데 필요한 시간/비용에 대한 추정치를 알고 계신가요?

추측을 하자면 상당한 비용이 들 것 같습니다 … 구축에는 엔지니어링 작업으로 약 6개월이 소요될 것입니다. 유지보수는 매년 추가로 4개월의 엔지니어링 작업이 필요합니다.
하지만 여기서 정확한 추산은 매우 어렵습니다. 저는 직감에 의존해서 말씀드린 것입니다.

감사합니다. 그리고 좀 더 질문해도 될까요? '6개월과 4개월의 엔지니어링’이라고 하셨는데, 여기서 '엔지니어링 월’이 정확히 무엇을 의미하나요?
그것이 1명이 160시간 동안 일하는 것을 의미하나요? 아니면 여러 명이 160시간씩 일하는 것을 의미하나요?
