הגדר את כניסת Facebook ל-Discourse

I got completely fed up with their developer warnings and decided to get rid of the Facebook login feature. It was very rarely used anyway.

What puzzles me is that what else I might need to do, in addition to disabling it from the settings? The admin panel does not seem provide a report that would show which accounts have used the Facebook login method.

I am on CDCK SaaS.

Just as an FYI, if you’re looking for some customer support you can message @team or email team@discourse.org and someone will be able to help you when their working week begins on Monday. :+1:

Though you may be able to find this info using a data explorer query.

I will also remove Facebook Login from my forum.

Totally agree.

Bad move from Meta.

It is insane.

It is done now…

Facebook actually restricted app to login.

Bad move from Meta.

Disabling Facebook Login from my forum:

Will wait if some day the roll back this stupid idea.

I’m hesitant about whether to enable this or not. Context: migrating a rather large community of non-tech-savvy people from Facebook. I’m sure it would help a lot to have Facebook login but if it breaks a lot if may be worse than not having it to start with. Also, what happens if a person’s facebook account gets suspended? (Asking because that happened to me this summer – does that disable access to Discourse too?) And how easy/nightmarish is it if at some point I decide to disable Facebook login?

You can find out about Facebook logins using a Data Explorer query: How do I see Facebook signups? - #2 by david.

I stopped using Facebook login years ago. I can’t find the topic about it here any more. But your forum will know the users’ email addresses, so I think it’s just a matter of them having to click the “forgot password” link to create a new one

As suggested, the social logins are additional ways to log in. Users can log in any way that you configure (matched by email address).

Right, so it could still make sense to have it working to welcome the wave of Facebook users. People in our community also all have a Google login, so that might also be helpful.

Thanks!

If you go for enabling Facebook logins, I wish you good luck :face_with_tongue:

If you want to go the easy (but less straightforward for users) way, enable Discourse ID as it is compatible with social logins (it will handle them for you).

haha thanks! I’ll probably need it!

This is what I’d like to do, but I think that (for starters at least) I really need to make it as easy as possible for my facebook peeps to slide into Discourse…

The key problem with Facebook logins isn’t establishing it (although that is a bit of a pain) - rather the maintenance of it.

After the third round of it breaking (each time some obscure requirement from Meta), I got sick of it and turned it off for good.

So it might be reasonable to implement it (or at least have a go) for your transition period, without the expectation of keeping it going in the long term.

Right, so I’d probably set it up, get people in, but also, as they arrive, encourage them to set up a discourse ID so they’re all set when Meta/Facebook break the Facebook login feature
