# Configuring X login and rich embeds for Discourse

has there been any change in this functionality? I have enabled the Twitter embeds exactly as shown in the OP, but they do not work at all. They do not load in the onebox, nor in the post. Strangely, when I paste the same link here it work on this website [https://x.com/CultureCrave/status/1823074450641723522](https://x.com/CultureCrave/status/1823074450641723522)
This is with a brand new account on Twitter (never had one before) on my Discourse which has never had this feature enabled before.

I followed all the steps listed in OP multiple times, it does not work. There are no embeds of any kind in any posts with a Twitter / X url. Not sure what could be the problem. Is this functionality broken on Discourse’s side, or on Twitter’s side? Is there a way to check?

What do others think about repeating or referencing the hint that you cannot use the free plan for embedding at this step?
When I wanted to link to the hint just now, I first looked for it in this step instead of a few lines above. Perhaps I am not the only one who would find the hint helpful at this place.

Do you have to have a paid account or buy credits in order to use even a few API calls per month?
I added $5 of credit to play with and I still can’t get it working. I probably use less than 100 per month though anyway.

I’m also not clear if I’m supposed to be using the OAuth 1.0 or the OAuth 2.0 Keys for the two settings:
- Twitter consumer key
- Twitter consumer secret

Answered my own questions. I guess adding the $5 did work (just took a bit to propagate) and I’m using the OAuth 1.0 Keys, with this settings unchecked: Enable Twitter logins
