Content Localization - Manual and Automatic with Discourse AI

You can use the toggle button on the timeline to toggle between seeing the translation in your interface language and seeing the original.

This feature is truly perfect. Thank you so much for your reply. You have perfectly solved my issue. If I were to say anything else, it might be that it will take a little time for my users to get familiar with the icons, because my users are all around 60 years old.

FYI I’ve noticed that if you edit a post right after you posted it (where it doesn’t count it as an edit) it would not re translate… the translate seems that got requested while I was editing and once I saved it was already translated with the original version

Another issue I just noticed today is that system messages from automation (like a weekly summary posted on a topic) is not being translated

We do not translate bot posts, i.e. users with id less than or equal to 0.

Bots create many posts automatically in various parts of the app, and we don’t translate them on purpose. I would suggest to change the author user to a non-system user if you need the post to be translated.

Is there a way to localize groups and their default title?

No, localizing groups isn’t supported yet.

The screenshots here should probably be updated with:

A post was split to a new topic: Localizing topic does not seem to localize excepts shown on topic list

Automatic translations with Discourse AI leads to a lot of intermittently broken images in posts for me.

Example: https://forum.letsmesh.net/t/configuration-observer-which-mqtt1-server-gateway/333/2

The embedded image is:

//meshcore-forum.5ec6979766f361bb887150a04f7cc125.r2.cloudflarestorage.com/original/2X/8/8e10d3779f1c7837a8c339a30827571a7d612afc.png

when it should be:

https://forum-uploads.letsmesh.net/original/2X/8/8e10d3779f1c7837a8c339a30827571a7d612afc.png

Clicking the image in the post open the image with the correct path, so I have no idea how/why this translation feature is causing this issue.

It was not a problem before turning it on.

What AI model are you using? I saw that with some smaller models.

This is with gemini-3-flash. Interesting if this is a model-related problem.

I tried again with gemini-3-pro and the result is the same.

I almost had the same trouble, I simply disable this option another problem is with emojis the LLM don’t ignore them cause it think is a word.

Thanks @eisammy for the suggestion. I unchecked that box and then deleted/re-ran translations on that post; unfortunately the same result. I was so hoping it’d be so simple

I’ve been using this for 2 months now, with 4 languages. Everything seems to be translating correctly, but in ā€œPagesā€ in Google Search Console I have 700 pages with the error ā€œAlternate page with proper canonical tag – These pages are not indexed or served on Googleā€, and all the example URLs contain ?tl=xx.

Is this correct? Is this what would be expected?

Hey, yes that’s right.

To be transparent this is also what we’re seeing for meta, and there is nothing to worry about.

To quote:

Your goal is to get the canonical version of every important page indexed. Duplicate or alternate pages shouldn’t be indexed

What not to look for

  • 100% coverage: You should not expect all URLs on your site to be indexed, only the canonical pages, as described above.

I’ve recently added a new section to the docs above:

Your graph should look something like this if you have more than a few languages enabled.

That’s nice to know that. Thank you for you explanation. And yes, my graphs looks like that, so, everything is fine
